Thank you for your interest regarding the possible evaluation and care of your child by our offices.

We at Kid’s Korner specialize in the neuromuscular evaluation and treatment of infants and children with eating (sucking, latching…), sleeping, breathing (nasal sounds), and irritability issues as it relates to common birthing circumstances.

You have been referred to us by a healthcare professional, trained to assist you in the care and feeding of your child/infant. They have noted and feel some muscular tension or structural problem of a muscular nature that they feel we may be able to assist you with.

We are available to evaluate your child for muscle tension and the related symptoms you may be experiencing as a result. If found to have true neuromuscular tension, you will be offered one or more in a series of gentle corrective treatments for your child designed to reduce or alleviate this tension. Likewise you will be asked to perform simple, normal movement related exercises with your infant to accentuate the release process at home between therapy sessions.

Correction of the muscular tension often reduces or even clears up the problem you are experiencing entirely. Sometimes there is more to the issue than we are able to correct muscularly. If further referral or follow up is needed to other resources, we will be able to assist you.

We would be happy to send you our brochure for further information or for presentation to your child’s pediatrician. To schedule an evaluation for your child or request a brochure, please call our offices at (916) 834-1711.

Please note that we make every effort to schedule babies in an efficient manner; however, this is according to therapist time and facility space at the time.

We do make payment plans available on an individual basis for special needs or in special financial circumstances. Our therapy office is conveniently located at 5340 Elvas Ave #100, Sacramento, CA 95819.

We look forward to helping you have a positive experience with your child.

Getting them off to a great start in life. Promoting wellness through structure-function balance.

Kids’ Korner™ is a place where the structural and functional aspects of an infant’s/child’s musculoskeletal system is evaluated and problems are addressed therapeutically. It is literally a “refitting of the pieces of the body’s structure and function.” Many in-utero (prenatal) and delivery circumstances can produce excessive tension in the muscles of a child’s head, neck, back and limbs. This increased tension translates into muscle congestion that pulls the structure out of its ideal functional position. This can require extra physical energy, muscle adaptation and creative positioning assistance to accomplish otherwise normal function.

EXAMPLES OF DYSFUNCTIONS/DIFFICULTIES

  • Breastfeeding/Nursing Problems (poor or ineffective latch, tongue efficiency and jaw glide)
  • Fussiness, Stressed Posture, Irritability, Restlessness, and Colic-like Behaviors
  • Unusual Crawling, Walking and Movement Patterns
  • Bruxism (grinding and other jaw related issues)
  • Enuresis (bedwetting)
  • Developmental Delays
  • Night Terrors
  • Hyperactivity

Gentle Functional Bowen™ can help address unusual crawling, walking and movement in babies and children

A THERAPEUTIC APPROACH

Functional Bowen™ Therapy is a gentle interpretive use of Thomas A. Bowen’s crossfiber neuromuscular technique. Named for Thomas A. Bowen, an Australian Osteopath, this integrated technique can be used on infants and children. It has the potential to increase the body’s immune system response through reducing muscle tension and associated nerve entrapment. Promoting nervous system relaxation and improved nerve pathways improves communication which supports normal structural function. This allows the body to regulate its own homeostatic processes more efficiently, as it was designed. As a result, health and wellness is promoted, as well as restoration of normal function.

ASSESSMENT/REFERRAL

The insidious nature of these dysfunctions and difficulties is that they are rarely prominent or visible at birth, but appear within hours or days post delivery. Rarely, it appears as late as the school age years. The earliest clues can be breastfeeding/nursing difficulties. Referrals are often made by lactation consultants, mid-wives, and other healthcare practitioners in the early postnatal period. Proper assessment of the muscle tension that can produce these dysfunctions is essential. With proper evaluation to correct this increased tension, “restoration of functional design” can be accomplished. For additional information or professional references, please contact us at (916) 834-1711 or email officemanager@knowmor.org.

PREDISPOSING FACTORS TO CONSIDER

These factors are commonly associated with the above-noted Dysfunctions/Difficulties and include, but are not limited to:
  • Complicated or high stress pregnancy
  • Prolonged or complicated labor
  • Precipitous (too fast) labor
  • Early engagement of fetal position prior to labor onset
  • Cesarean section
  • Pitocin or hormonal labor stimulation
  • Epidural administration
  • Head traction or external extraction with delivery
  • Low amniotic fluid levels/space constraints

Below are our office policies.

No-Show / Cancellation Policy

Because we set aside the necessary time for your proposed appointment and do not have the ability to fill this time without sufficient notice, it is necessary to maintain a no-show /cancellation policy. Patients who do not call at least 24 hours before their appointment or do not show up to their appointment are subject to be charged the full therapy fee. Patients who are scheduled on a Monday who need to reschedule or cancel are requested to call the Friday before the appointment to allow us time to fill the slot. Also, late arrivals of more than 15 minutes will need to be rescheduled and fees may be subject as well.

Prepaid Appointments/Policy

To keep costs down, we do not employ a record- keeping service for pre-paid appointments which may be classified as unredeemed for a period of longer than six months. Please note while we make every attempt to ensure your investment with us is utilized to the fullest, appointments not redeemed within six months of purchase are considered forfeit.

Please note these statements are provided on all printed informational new patient/client materials. Your presence in our office is your acknowledgment/agreement with these stated policies. Thank you.

Insurance Billing / Receipts

Our office does not bill insurance or HSA (Health Savings Accounts). To keep our costs reasonable, we do not employ staff resources to pay someone full-time to add this benefit to our services. Therefore, the individual or parent, in the case of a minor, is responsible to render payment at the time services are performed (or scheduled in the case of our lead therapist).

Further, it is our office policy that your check or credit card slip is your receipt for services. If you desire or are in need of a general receipt (using our standard form) for HSA accounts or for other purposes, please notify your therapist at the time of payment. We suggest this hard copy receipt be requested at the time of service to document monies spent on an HSA account. Consult your accountant or tax preparer regarding any tax deductible benefit. Also, please request and keep your receipts at the time of service.

No Formal Receipts will be generated by the office manager “after the fact”, as we do not retain payment information. If you require a formal receipt (which requires an office manger to type/generate) for reimbursement of any kind, we will assess an initial administrative fee of $45 at the time the request is made. This receipt must be for the present services rendered and again not former services utilized.

**PLEASE NOTE: This statement is provided on all email/mail sent to all new clients/patients prior to any visit at our offices. Your presence at any new patient evaluation is your acknowledgment/agreement with the above stated policy. Thank you.

Infant Massage is a parent tradition within many ancient cultures that has been re-discovered and adapted to the western world. Research conducted through the Touch Research Institute at the University of Miami School of Medicine confirms the importance of a secure environment and nurturing touch in the healthy growth, development and maturation of children (Tiffany Field, Ph.D.).

Numerous other studies have also shown the many developmental benefits of positive contact as part of baby’s early life. Infant Massage is one of the most natural and pleasant methods of providing this early nurturing contact.
